Climate fears push electric car production and sales
Swedish carmaker Volvo just grabbed headlines by announcing that starting in 2019 all its cars will have electric engines. France is the latest country to announce it will ban gas and diesel cars within a couple of decades. Move over, gas guzzlers! The plug-in cars are here.
Volvo and France woke me up to a quiet revolution that has happened in the decade or so since "electric car" meant Tesla, and "hybrid" meant Prius. Now every car maker offers at lea...

A New Smart Car Electric Vehicle: Why, Yes. Yes, It Is.
The Smart car brand unveiled a new-generation Smart electric vehicle at the Paris Motor Show, to go on sale in the United States in 2017, starting with the hardtop version in the spring, and a convertible in the summer.
The new version, the 2017 Smart fortwo coupe electric drive, recharges in less than half the time of the model it replaces, although that’s still 2½ hours. The company claims a range of about 99 miles on a full charge. That’s based on Eu...

Do Weight Losses Make Today’s Cars Less Safe?
In a crash test involving a tiny Smart and a big Mercedes-Benz, both held their own!
The auto industry has put its vehicles on weight-loss diets to meet federal fuel-economy targets. But does that mean lighter models will fare poorly in crashes with heavyweights?

FDNY Ladder 111's Men Pick Up a Smart Car Like It Were a Toy
There's never been a debate whether or not the firemen of the New York Fire Department, a.k.a. the FDNY, are strong enough. However, there are still times where their strength impresses the normally-stoic citizens of NYC. Recently, the boys of Ladder 111 in Brooklyn were unable to get down a street due to an illegally double-parked Toyota Tundra. (Ladder 111 is a 2013 Seagrave Aerialscope 75 foot tower ladder, so you can safely assume it is already a p...

This has to be the most random car render ever.
We’ve seen some pretty outlandish car render designs lately, from artists envisioning BMW pickup trucks and BMW hypercars, to mock-ups of the mighty Mercedes-AMG Project One. This latest render from Evren Milano, the same Italian artist who brought us the magnificent Mercedes-AMG Project One render, is one of the most random yet.
There’s no other way to put this – Milano has taken the face of the Bugatti Chiron hypercar and slapped it onto the body of a di...

TG’s Smart ForTwo Brabus review (2016-2017)
The fastest version of Mercedes’ smallest car – the Smart ForTwo Brabus.
I thought fast Mercedes had AMG badges?
They do, usually, but for some reason it’s always Brabus – peddlers of 900bhp Maybachs and other, equally outrageous tuned Mercedes – that gets the job of making Smarts more interesting. Fine with us because the result, we suspect, would be much the same. There’s only so much you can do to a car so little.
Ok, what’s ne...
